Mini-Mo has arrived! He decided to hang in there through 26 hours of labor until May 7 so that he and his cousin could have the same day of the month as birthdays. Or not. At least it will help aunties to remember the date. He weighed in at 6 lbs, 13 oz. and is 20″ long. For those who are wondering, the Harp-Olsen nose continues to dominate the gene pool, beating out Mario’s classic Greek schnozz.
So we now have to adjust to his real name. For now we can get away with Mini-Mo, Poofie, little Mo, and the Little Burrito (oh, if only he had been a Cinco de Mini-Mo baby!), but John is a much more socially acceptable name for the future lawyer/doctor/actuary/leader of the free world. Ah, but in spite of being named for his Greek great-grandfathers, he also shares his name with his American grand- and great-grandfathers. So add John-Boy to his list of names.
I don’t know what his delivery style has to say about his personality, but he had all of his grandparents driving back and forth throughout the night. Mommy and Daddy went to the hospital at 8 with Kelly, the labor coach (and neighbor) par excellence. Grandparents got there lickety-split. And then we waited.
By 11pm Kristin was drifting off into a well-deserved epidural nap. At midnight nothing was progressing and Daddy sent us home. In bed at 1. Phone call at 2–“Your grandson has arrived!” Back down to St. Jo’s where we had quality cuddle time with the little cutie. Grandparents’ extra hands do come in handy when you’re exhausted and in pain. And we are oh so willing to lend a hand. Nothing beats holding a brand-new baby while he tries to focus his big dark eyes on the bright new world.
Hi John Michael! Welcome to the planet…welcome to existence!
